the freedom from information act

let’s see… what are we fighting for over in iraq again? oh yeah… reason #47: a free and democratic country for the iraqis! modeled after our own shining example, no doubt. which makes it a bit odd that our honorable servicemen over there are getting the chinese democracy treatment when it comes to internet access. apparently only tripe like the incoherent, uninformed, hate-filled ramblings of michelle malkin and hugh hewitt is deemed acceptable. those damn “liberal” blogs (you know, sites like this that shine a harsh spotlight on the truth about this administration’s lies and incompetence) on the other hand… well, that’s where the whole freedom thing falls apart. not only are the troops not allowed to view these sites, they’re threatened when they try to access them. seriously.

what’s good for the goose

after reading this, it’s a “no-brainer for me” to consider giving this draft-dodging assclown a little waterboarding adventure of his own. i actually find it incredible that there’s even a debate about whether torture is acceptable—it’s not, and it’s so clearly completely contrary to everything for which this country stands. that said, a piece of human debris like dick cheney—who’s done far more damage to this country than any supposed terrorist ever could—might be that rare exception deserving of this kind of treatment. in fact, waterboarding cheney might be the only way to get the truth about the WMD lies, 9/11, plamegate, halliburton’s obscene profiteering, secret prisons and extraordinary rendition.

a blow of rush to the head

it’s pretty hard to wrap your brain around just how big of a self-absorbed, my-own-shit-doesn’t-stink, self-righteous, hypocritical, boorish, prevaricating, fucking asshole one would have to be to do this. but the brain is capable and does wrap around the realization that rush limbaugh is that asshole.

karl rove’s shit-eating grin

wonder why rove is so confident that the GOP will retain the house and senate? wonder no more. it’s not just lackeys like ken blackwell in ohio using voter diversion tactics. it’s much, much worse than that.

pat tillman’s brother speaks

those of you who have followed the tragic story of pat tillman probably know that his brother, kevin, signed up with him in 2002 in a fit of patriotic fervor. now kevin is encouraging people to think hard about the choices available to us on november 7th, one day after what would have been pat’s 30th birthday. here’s a snippet from his piece:

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow the most reasonable, trusted and respected country in the world has become one of the most irrational, belligerent, feared, and distrusted countries in the world.

Somehow being politically informed, diligent, and skeptical has been replaced by apathy through active ignorance.

Somehow the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country.

Somehow this is tolerated.

read the whole piece here. real patriots—not the chickenshit chickenhawks in charge of this country—want change at the top. make it happen.
