one little political post in between music goodies.
if you haven’t been following the mccain vs. obama rhetoric, here’s a recap.
i wrote to mccain a couple of weeks back. i used to think that, for a republican, he was actually semi-okay. ha! i know, fool me once, shame on you, fool me… (oh fuck it. let this idiot say it.)
anyway, here’s a second ‘dear john’ letter i wrote to mccain today via his web site. will anybody read it? probably not. made me feel better though. the letter is after the break…
dear john:i wrote you a few weeks back inquiring why you seemed so intent on letting blind ambition destroy what little credibility you have left on the pressing issues this country faces today. i didn’t expect a response, of course. and yet i feel compelled to write again after reading some of the inane things you’ve been saying.
your attacks on the 60+ percent of americans who want to end this war of lies—and the handful of politicians courageous enough to speak for us—just make you look like an idiot. an out-of-touch idiot. an unpatriotic idiot. a sad, broken, pathetic shell of an idiot who seems to think that running for office is a higher calling than telling the truth. how can you say things like this: “I was very disappointed to see Senator Obama and Senator Clinton embrace the policy of surrender by voting against funds to support our brave men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters, but it’s the equivalent of waving a white flag to al Qaeda.â€
seriously. how can you adopt the rovian talking points of ‘surrender’ and ‘not supporting the troops’ and still look in the mirror each day? surely deep down you must be ashamed at what you’ve become. a war hero reduced to a slogan-slinging attack dog for policies you would never have enacted on your own. or would you? would you have invaded iraq when all of the intelligence indicated there was no ‘there’ there? didn’t you do your due diligence and read the intelligence available at the time? how about the report just released today by senator rockefeller?
your highly-compensated campaign advisors and smear merchants (you know, the folks that rove used to blast you in south carolina in 2000 that you now employ) will assuredly tell you that the nomination and the presidency are yours to win if you just keep at it. but they’re pimping you the same way you’re pimping yourself and the american people. if you truly believe all the bullshit you’ve been saying lately, you’ve reached a sad place mentally indeed. and if you don’t, that’s even worse: you’re just another blowhard who will lie about anything if he thinks it will get him elected.
do yourself and the american people a favor and drop out of the race. resign from the senate. take a little time to figure out how to actually do some good in this country and restore some sense of credibility to your once-unimpugnable name.
you’re a fraud, john. and as i said last time, it’s a sad, sad thing to observe.
i certainly don’t wish you any personal ill will. but i do hope that your brand of self-serving lying and character assassination gets relegated to the trash heap of history as soon as possible.
your transformation has been stomach-churning to watch. go ahead and wrap yourself in the flag. you know the emperor has no clothes underneath.
sincerely,

[...] imagine loathing someone more than i loathe dubya bush, but i’m almost there with john mccain. i’ve written before about what a pandering, lying, self-serving pathetic shell of a man he is—and that was in a [...]
